Tuesday, September 30: Charles will be in not quite as beautiful Walnut, CA, reading and talking with students at Mt. SAC junior college. Afterwards there's going to be a few ritual beheadings.

Wednesday, October 1: The Whittier College Reading Festival. where Charles has the honor of appearing with pulitzer prize winner, Robert Olen Butler. Afterwards: everyone makes lanyards.

Oct 3-5: Brattleboro, VT; the Brattleboro Literary Festival. Charles reads on Sunday afternoon, Oct 5, with Margaret Cezair-Thompson. Afterwards? Making sweet love to you, baby, only to you.

The VERY NEXT NIGHT, on Monday, Oct 6, as if by magic, Charles will be on the other end of the country, in San Francisco, CA, where he's in conversation with official Genius-type guy George Saunders. Afterwards: collapse from exhaustion.

Also, as you might know, Charles is pretty much the star of the movie Out of the Book: State by State, a promotional film made for the book, State By State: A Panoramic Portrait of America. September 15, 2008 - Schedule stuff:

On Thursday, September 18, there is a special screening of the movie Out of the Book: State by State. It's a promotional film made for the book, State By State: A Panoramic Portrait of America. Charles represents Nevada in the book (part of his essay can be seen here) and is featured in the promotional film. On the 18th, after the screening, he'll also be on a panel discussing the whole deal. It's at the Cantor Film Center in New York City. The Bockstar will be on stage with famous writer folk including Joshua Ferris, Rick Moody, and even Myla Goldberg (WHEEEE). Check Cheri's tour page for a link with more info.

The following day, Friday, September 19, Charles will be in Omaha, Nebraska for the (downtown) Omaha Lit Fest. He'll be having some role in an anti-censorship reading on Friday night, and then on Saturday, Sept 20 will be on a panel about music and writing with Tim McMahan, Carleen Brice, Nick Fackler, and Dana Rasso. July 24, 2008 - Check out the new Chuck Sperry Poster for the Thursday, July 31st reading in Central Park. Trust us, this baby is unbelievable in person. July 1, 2008 - On Wednesday July 9, Charles will be among the debut novelists taking part in a lunchtime panel for the Word for Word series at the Bryant Park Library. Moderated by David Ebershoff, the panel will also star these amazing writers: Toby Barlow, Stefan Merill Block, Ceridwen Dovey, and Sophie Gee. The panel starts at 12:30. May 26, 2008 - Updates, updates, updates:

At long last, the first two reader-submitted songs to the BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN ORIGINAL MUSIC PROJECT are up. You can access these excellent songs through the Girl With The Shaved Head's page, inside. Many thanks to Neg-fi and Jeff Mullins for taking the leap.

Writers on Writing interviewed Charles about craft, and that extended broadcast (the second half featuring an interview with the award-winning Manil Suri) is now up, via Daphney and Lestat's page.

On Tuesday, June 10, Charles will be talking about BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN at the Mid-Manhattan Library. On Wednesday, June 18, Charles and his good buddy Nathanial Rich will rock the Housing Works Bookstore in NYC. For more info on and links to these readings, hit Cheri's tour page.

February 10, 2008 - Lots of reviews, features, webcasts, podcasts, and radio stuff has been added. Also, Charles will be on NPR in NYC at 1pm on Monday, Feb 11. Two readings this week in NYC: Tuesday night at Three Lives, and Thursday night at the KGB Bar. Both are at 7pm and free. The KGB reading is in conjunction with Beyond the Book, a foundation that helps with literacy and low income NYC students. Highly suggested that you arrive early for each, as space is limited.
